Under this new scam, users receive an email from Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue Office (HMRC) informing them that they are eligible for a tax refund.
Unsuspecting users are then asked to click on a link that takes them to a website like HMRC.
There, they are asked to enter personal information such as Social Security numbers and other personal and financial information, reports Express.
The UK's national cyber and fraud reporting center, Action Fraud, said more than 400 cases of this email scanning have been reported in less than a month.
We have received 442 reports about fake emails originating from HMRC in two weeks.
